Bulla ki jaana maen koun ?

Na maen momin vich maseet aan
Na maen vich kufar diyan reet aan
Na maen paakaan vich paleet aan
Na maen moosa na pharaun.

Bulleh! ki jaana maen kaun

Na maen andar ved kitaab aan,
Na vich bhangaan na sharaab aan
Na vich rindaan masat kharaab aan
Na vich jaagan na vich saun.

Bulleh! ki jaana maen kaun.

Na vich shaadi na ghamnaaki
Na maen vich paleeti paaki
Na maen aabi na maen khaki
Na maen aatish na maen paun

Bulleh!, ki jaana maen kaun

Na maen arabi na lahori
Na maen hindi shehar nagauri
Na hindu na turak peshawri
Na maen rehnda vich nadaun

Bulla, ki jaana maen kaun

Na maen bheth mazhab da paaya
Ne maen aadam havva jaaya
Na maen apna naam dharaaya
Na vich baitthan na vich bhaun

Bulleh , ki jaana maen kaun

Avval aakhir aap nu jaana
Na koi dooja hor pehchaana
Maethon hor na koi siyaana
Bulla! ooh khadda hai kaun

Bulla, ki jaana maen kaun
Not a believer inside the mosque, am I
Nor a pagan disciple of false rites
Not the pure amongst the impure
Neither Moses, nor the Pharoh

Bulleh! to me, I am not known

Not in the holy Vedas, am I
Nor in opium, neither in wine
Not in the drunkard`s craze
Niether awake, nor in a sleeping daze

Bulleh! to me, I am not known

In happiness nor in sorrow, am I
Neither clean, nor a filthy mire
Not from water, nor from earth
Neither fire, nor from air, is my birth

Bulleh! to me, I am not known

Not an Arab, nor Lahori
Neither Hindi, nor Nagauri
Hindu, Turk (Muslim), nor Peshawari
Nor do I live in Nadaun

Bulleh! to me, I am not known

Secrets of religion, I have not known
From Adam and Eve, I am not born
I am not the name I assume
Not in stillness, nor on the move

Bulleh! to me, I am not known

I am the first, I am the last
None other, have I ever known
I am the wisest of them all
Bulleh! do I stand alone?

Bulleh! to me, I am not known

"Bulla ki jaana" - orginally sung by Baba Bulleh Shah, new rendition by Rabbi Shergill

anonymous(2): Nothing's wrong with the translation, it's the criticism virus that's floating around :). Yeah, I got it from coolgoose too. But i'm buying the CD this weekend.

Bulla Ki Jaana Maen Kaun

Says Bulla, who knows who I am!

I am not in the mosque of the believer,
Nor in false rites.
I am not in the pure or the impure.
Neither Moses nor Pharaoh.
Says Bulla, who knows who I am!

I am not in the vedas or holy books,
Not in drug or wine.
Not in the drunkards wasted intoxication,
Not in wakefulness or sleep.
Says Bulla, who knows who I am!

I am not in sorrow nor in joy,
Neither in clean nor unclean.
I am not water, I am not earth,
I am not fire, I am not air.
Says Bulla, who knows who I am!

I am not from Arabia or Lahore,
Nor from India or Nagaur.
Neither a hindu or muslim from Peshawar,
Nor do I live in Nadaun.
Says Bulla, who knows who I am!

I cannot be unearthed in the mysteries of religion.
I was not born of Adam and Eve.
I am not the name I assume.
I am not in stillness, not in movement.

Finally, I only know myself.
I cannot know any other.
Who could be wiser than I?
Bulla asks, who then, stands here?
Says Bulla, who knows who I am!

thats the specific translation of the old verse guys ameet singh from pune

i don know wat rabbi wants to convey exactly?he says he is not that ,he is not this, does he exist?
he wants to say he is GOD?the music was best, his voice is ultimate, but lyrics made no sense, may be the lyrics can be enjoyed with a sense of fiction.i think he has to learn abt moses(peace beupon him).

Hi, in modern days Junoon first sung this song it is in Rock style I enjoyed both Junoon and Rabbi version very much only because of Poetry. Someone say this poetry doesn't make senese, you need to listen this song with lonely or when you feel worthless against Nature ( it is my feeling). By the way you can download it from http://www.pakimp3.org/list.artists.php
keep blogging.

Great Peotry and sung in a fantstic way. Voice just creates the rythm to touch the soal. What makes me wonder is the thoughtfulness and depth of a person who lived in 17th Century. Rabbi Paji your voice absolutely made me know Bulla better.

Hello Everyone,
I think the approach of the translation is bit off. The translation has to be cognisant of Bullah Shah’s other kalams and the fact his native tongue was Sindhi. With these in mind, the translation of the main line “Bulleh! ki jaana maen kaun” becomes “I am not known to Bullah.” Or simply stated “Bullah does not know me.” The intended speaker (or narrator) of the kalam is God rather than Bullah; a constant theme in Bullah Shah’s writings. This should lead to a better understanding of the rest of the song as well. Please correct if I am wrong.

God listens to u directly and if u wanna hav the real knowlede of this universe b serious and try asking from allah directly he will show u da lite, thats wot bullah shah teaches every homosapien tht try knowing who u are and who has created u. lest u will b confused and roam aimlessly in the world and thn one day u will die aimlesly, believe me allah is onli one..... and try asking from him directly.

I think some ppl think of it as a rabbi shergill written song. This is absolutely wrong. Its a wide known fact that its a hugely famous Bulleh Shah kaafi. This kaafi was part of my punjabi text book in 9th grade. and I won't fail to mention that Rabbi Shergill never claimed it to be his own creation...its just his rendition. and he has done a good job. Atleast ppl now know who Bulleh Shah was.....n what gr8 depths his poetry reached. Peace
